BOTOX® Cosmetic is used to treat frown lines (“11’s”) between the eyebrows, as well the forehead and around the eyes (“crow’s feet”), chin creases, horizontal neck lines and wrinkles around the mouth.
Botox is one of many formulations of botulinum toxin. When injected into the face, botulinum blocks the release of muscle contracting chemicals. The injection enables muscle relaxation. The result is smoother appearing skin.
What areas does Botox Treat?
Botox can be used to treat a few different conditions. Patients considering Botox may opt to treat the following conditions:
- Frown lines (sometimes known as “11’s”)
- Lines between the eyebrows
- Creases across the forehead (“worry lines”)
- Creases across the corner of the eyes (“crow’s feet”)
Botox also accomodates wrinkling or problem areas outside of the face region. Botox can also be used to minimize chin creases, horizontal neck lines, as well as additional wrinkles around the mouth. Although Botox can accomodate lines near the eyes, some patients opt for eye surgery for around the eye appearance.
Botox has also been used for other non-skin related conditions. In cases of facial asymmetry or paralysis Botox can provide relief. It can reduce expressiveness on the un-paralyzed side of the face for a more even appearance. In rare cases, patients may also see improvement in migraines or facial spasms.
What are the Results of Botox?
After injection, Botox takes time to bring about desired effects. The first day after an injection, patients may notice swelling, or bruising near the injection site. This is usually not cause for alarm and typically fades. A Botox injection typically takes between three to five days to take effect. When used as a wrinkle remover, Botox may last anywhere between three to six months.
